Japan’s economy contracted for the first time in two quarters in October-December, reflecting sluggish consumer spending and slumping exports to China and the United States, government data showed Monday.

The country’ seasonally adjusted gross domestic product fell 0.4 percent from the previous quarter, for an annualized rate of 1.4 percent, in inflation-adjusted real terms, the Cabinet Office said in a preliminary report.（Reference: Japan News）
