The government is considering to requiring Mitsubishi Motor Corp. to pay all the taxes exempted on minivehicles in the wake of recent revelations that it falsified data on those types of cars.

If the emission levels are confirmed to fall short of standards and the vehicles in question are not eligible for tax breaks, the purchasers will be obliged to pay the shortfall in taxes. However, the government considers it inappropriate to require payment from purchasers, who did not know of the data falsification.
